| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dina Bair, WGN | ||||||
| 4 | midday news anchor, as she receives the 2013 Dante Award from | ||||||
| 5 | the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Dante Award recognizes those who have made a | ||||||
| 7 | positive contribution in the field of communications that helps | ||||||
| 8 | foster the true image of the Italian people; the award bears | ||||||
| 9 | the name of one of the greatest literary geniuses of all time | ||||||
| 10 | and certainly one of Italy's most illustrious sons; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Dina Bair is an Emmy award-winning journalist who | ||||||
| 12 | is currently the anchor for WGN's "Midday News"; she is also | ||||||
| 13 | the medical reporter for the "Medical Watch" segments seen | ||||||
| 14 | throughout the day on WGN; in 2013 she traveled to Vatican City | ||||||
| 15 | to report on the election of the new Pope; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Dina Bair joined WGN-TV as a full-time general | ||||||
| 17 | assignment reporter in September of 1994; she anchored the "WGN | ||||||
| 18 | Weekend Morning News" from December 1994 to December 1999; | ||||||
| 19 | prior to coming to WGN, she worked for CLTV in Oak Brook, | ||||||
| 20 | WHOI-TV in Peoria, and WMAQ-TV in Chicago; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Dina Bair has received 7 Emmy Awards, a Peter | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Lisagor award from the Society of Professional Journalists, and | ||||||
| 2 | multiple Associated Press awards for both anchoring and | ||||||
| 3 | reporting; she was named a Fellow by the National Press | ||||||
| 4 | Foundation for the "Cancer Issues" seminar in Washington, D.C. | ||||||
| 5 | and her news series "Intensive Caring" won awards for its news | ||||||
| 6 | and documentary coverage; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Dina Bair is a founding board member of the breast | ||||||
| 8 | cancer charity "One in a Million: Dancing With Chicago | ||||||
| 9 | Celebrities" and she leads a media running team devoted to | ||||||
| 10 | raising funds for charity; she is involved with The National | ||||||
| 11 | Italian American Foundation, the Muscular Dystrophy | ||||||
| 12 | Association, LUNGevity, the Respiratory Health Association, | ||||||
| 13 | the American Cancer Society, and Imerman Angels; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dina Bair is originally from the east coast and | ||||||
| 15 | received a bachelor's of science degree in radio-TV-film from | ||||||
| 16 | Northwestern University; she is married with 4 children and a | ||||||
| 17 | tri-athlete who enjoys running, boxing, lifting weights, and | ||||||
| 18 | competitive ballroom dancing; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, This year marks the 42nd annual Dante Award | ||||||
| 20 | presented by the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans; | ||||||
| 21 | therefore, be it

| 22 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||

| 1 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 2 | we congratulate Dina Bair as she receives the 2013 Dante Award | ||||||
