HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the administration, faculty, and employees of University of Illinois Extension on the occasion of the organization's 100th anniversary in 2014; and

WHEREAS, The Cooperative Extension System was established with the Smith-Lever Act of 1914 to create an educational partnership between the United States Department of Agriculture and America's land-grant universities; the Act required land-grant institutions to extend the research of the university beyond its walls to enrich the lives of all people; and

WHEREAS, University of Illinois Extension, formerly the Cooperative Extension Service, combines the expertise and resources of federal, State, and county governments, while local volunteer councils help identify the needs and problems Extension addresses; and

WHEREAS, University of Illinois Extension is committed to providing educational programs that help people make their lives better, healthier, safer, and more profitable; Extension works to strengthen local food production and distribution to enhance food safety and security, addresses critical issues of family health, financial security, and wellness, advocates for the wise use and conservation of natural resources, supports community leaders and officials to foster economic development and workforce preparedness, and helps youth acquire essential life skills and become caring, confident, competent, and contributing members of their communities; and

WHEREAS, University of Illinois Extension has been dedicated to providing access to vital information and resources for individuals anytime and anywhere; outreach through the Internet and other social media allows their clientele to have access to the best and brightest minds 24 hours a day; and

WHEREAS, For 100 years, University of Illinois Extension has provided objective research and expertise to find solutions to problems faced by the people and communities in all 102 Illinois counties; and

WHEREAS, University of Illinois Extension's mission of providing quality education to the people of this State is worthy of the greatest respect; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the administration, faculty, and employees of University of Illinois Extension on the occasion of the organization's 100th anniversary and wish them success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to University of Illinois Extension as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
