| 2 | | WHEREAS, On April 23, 1908, Congress authorized a Medical |
| 3 | | Reserve Corps-a reserve force of civilian medical officers who |
| 4 | | could be ordered to active duty by the Secretary of War during |
| 5 | | a time of national emergency to save the lives of American |
| 6 | | soldiers on the battlefield; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, What began as a strategic reserve force of 160 |
| 8 | | physicians in the 20th century, is now a 21st century |
| 9 | | operational force with an authorized end strength of 200,950 |
| 10 | | U.S. Army Reserve soldiers, including over 6,680 U.S. Army |
| 11 | | Reserve soldiers in 30 locations in the State of Illinois; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The U.S. Army Reserve has responded with honor and |
| 13 | | valor to the call of the nation in times of need with over |
| 14 | | 12,000 Army Reserve soldiers now serving overseas; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, The families and employers of the soldiers also |
| 16 | | contribute greatly to their success; therefore, be it
|
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 19 | | we proclaim April 23, 2013, as United States Army Reserve Day |
| 20 | | in the State of Illinois, honor our past and current |
| 21 | | citizen-soldiers for their service, and thank the friends, |
