HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the owners and employees of the Route 66 Raceway as it celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2013; and

WHEREAS, The Route 66 Raceway opened on May 28, 1998; and

WHEREAS, The Route 66 Raceway is located on the iconic road that ran from Chicago to California and fostered a special relationship between America and the automobile; and

WHEREAS, The Route 66 Raceway was the first true stadium of drag racing; it was founded by 9 local entrepreneurs; the National Hot Rod Association-affiliated, quarter-mile drag strip is now fully owned and operated by the International Speedway Corporation and is the sister track to Chicagoland Speedway; and

WHEREAS, The Route 66 Raceway is a 250-acre facility that also features a dirt oval which hosts the Traxxas TORC Series (Baja-style racing), along with a demolition derby; the oval annually plays host to the NASCAR Sprint Cup, the Nationwide and the Camping World Truck Series, IndyCar, and ARCA events; and

WHEREAS, The Route 66 Raceway will be the home to nearly 40 events in 2013, from demolition derbies to the O'Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals, providing something for every race fan; the raceway annually hosts weekend ET Bracker Series racing, NHRA Jr. Drag Racing, NHRA Lucus Oil Series, and NHRA Full Throttle Series professional drag racing events; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we are pleased to congratulate the owners and employees of the Route 66 Raceway as it celebrates the 15th anniversary of its founding and wish them many more years of continued success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Route 66 Raceway as an expression of our esteem and respect.
