HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to honor John Batusich for his 
4heroic actions that helped preserve crucial evidence in a 
5murder investigation; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, On November 18, 2012, John Batusich came upon a 
7fire on Canton Farm Road; he was off duty and on vacation but 
8forcibly entered the house to see if anyone needed aid and 
9removed an elderly woman from the burning house; the rescue 
10then turned into a murder investigation; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Because John Batusich took heroic action on that 
12day, evidence was preserved in the investigation which  led to a 
13confession from the culprit and the case being closed for the 
14murder of 89-year old Dorothy Dumyahn; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, John Batusich will be awarded The Medal of Honor 
16as a result of his actions; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, John Batusich will be honored at the Twentieth 
18Annual Firefighting Medal of Honor Awards Ceremony and the 
19Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service on May 9th at the 
20Firefighters Memorial on the grounds of the Illinois State 
21Capitol; and

1    WHEREAS, John Batusich is employed by the Lockport Township 
2Fire District as a firefighter; he lives in the 98th District 
3in Crest Hill and is a  Lockport Township trustee; therefore, be 
4it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
6NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
7we honor John Batusich for his actions and thank him for his 
8service to the community; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to John Batusich as an expression of our esteem and 
11respect.
