HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Bradley University's Dyricus Simms-Edwards on being named the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Defensive Player of the Year for the 2012-2013 basketball season; and

WHEREAS, Dyricus Simms-Edwards helped set the tone for the Bradley Braves's 2012-2013 season, helping them improve their win total by 11 from the 2011-2012 season, finishing the year with an overall record of 18-17 after advancing to the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament; and

WHEREAS, Dyricus Simms-Edwards was previously selected as the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year; he led the conference in steals and ranked among the national leaders all season, ultimately setting the single-season school mark with 86; with the fifth-best single-season total in conference history, he led the nation in steals per personal foul (1.83) during the regular season and was fourth in steals per turnover (1.58); his 8 steals December 29th against Drake were the most by a conference player since the 2005-2006 campaign and was the single-best single-game total in league and school history; and

WHEREAS, Dyricus Simms-Edwards is the son of Demetrius Edwards and Tara Simms and was born on March 8, 1991, in Peoria; he has 4 siblings, Destini, Derria, Derali, and Jarriah; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we are pleased to honor Bradley University's Dyricus Simms-Edwards on being named the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Defensive Player of the Year for the 2012-2013 basketball season; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dyricus Simms-Edwards as an expression of our esteem and respect.
