HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Chicago Area Project and the Illinois Council of Area Projects are organizing a "Youth Democracy Day" to be held on May 14, 2013, in Springfield; and

WHEREAS, Youth Democracy Day 2013 will bring together over 250 youths, and their supporters, from across the State to engage in a large-scale youth forum with legislators and senior administration figures; and

WHEREAS, At the Youth Democracy Day 2013, the objectives hoped to be achieved are an increased sense of purpose and power for young people to articulate their concerns, increased knowledge of State government procedures, people, and processes, the creation of a dialogue between local governments and young people representing community services, improved people skills in civic engagement and the democratic process amongst young people, and the creation of community/school youth-driven violence-prevention projects to possibly obtain service learning and/or community service credits; and

WHEREAS, Youth Democracy Day 2013 will kick-off with Civic Educational and Engagement Training at the State House Inn in Springfield and will include presentations by youths and by officials at the State Capitol; there will be tours and pre-arranged group meetings and photo opportunities with individual legislators, administrators, and other officials; and

WHEREAS, All participating youths will receive Certificates of Attendance at Youth Democracy Day 2013; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we enthusiastically recognize the Youth Democracy Day to be held in Springfield on May 14, 2013, and thank The Chicago Area Project and the Illinois Council of Area Projects for all they do to encourage the youth of the State to become more involved in their community and government; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to The Chicago Area Project and the Illinois Council of Area Projects as an expression of our esteem and respect.
