2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to honor and congratulate Tyra Buss | ||||||
4 | for her academic and athletic accomplishments while enrolled at | ||||||
5 | Mt. Carmel High School in Mt. Carmel; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Kelly and Tim Buss welcomed Tyra's birth in Mt. | ||||||
7 | Carmel on April 25, 1996; on this day, Kelly was scheduled to | ||||||
8 | coach a track and field meet for the Mt. Carmel High School | ||||||
9 | team, but instead gave birth to her only daughter, who would go | ||||||
10 | on to become the school's most decorated student-athlete; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Tyra Buss led the Lady Aces to back-to-back wins | ||||||
12 | in 2011 and 2012 at the Robinson Invitational and was named to | ||||||
13 | the 1st Team All-Tournament team both years; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, In 2012, Tyra Buss gained recognition for becoming | ||||||
15 | the fastest Illinois High School athlete ever to reach the | ||||||
16 | 2,000 career point mark; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, In 2013, Tyra Buss became the first player in | ||||||
18 | Illinois High School History to score 3,000 career points in | ||||||
19 | their junior season; she led the 2012-13 Lady Aces to become | ||||||
20 | the first basketball team in Mt. Carmel High School history to | ||||||
21 | go undefeated during the regular season, and became the |

1 | all-time State of Illinois career leading free throw shooter; | ||||||
2 | and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, On February 14, 2013, Tyra Buss set the new | ||||||
4 | national mark for most points in a season by a girls' | ||||||
5 | basketball player, scoring 1,285 points during the 2012-2013 | ||||||
6 | season; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, On February 20, 2013, for the third time in 3 | ||||||
8 | years, Tyra Buss was listed as the only member of the | ||||||
9 | Associated Press' 2A All-State Basketball Team to be chosen | ||||||
10 | unanimously; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, On February 28, 2013, Tyra Buss was named to the | ||||||
12 | First Team All-State by the Illinois Basketball Coaches | ||||||
13 | Association for the third straight year; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, On March 25, 2013, the Chicago Tribune, in | ||||||
15 | conjunction with the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, | ||||||
16 | chose Tyra Buss as the 2013 Illinois Ms. Basketball; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Tyra Buss averaged 38.9 points, 6.1 steals, 3.2 | ||||||
18 | assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game for the 32-1 Aces during her | ||||||
19 | junior year; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, During her junior year of high school, Tyra Buss |

| |||||||
1 | dedicated herself to being her best both on and off the court; | ||||||
2 | she currently maintains a perfect 5.0 GPA at Mt. Carmel High | ||||||
3 | School; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
5 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
6 | we congratulate Tyra Buss on her athletic and academic | ||||||
7 | accomplishments; and be it further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to Tyra Buss and Mt. Carmel High School as a symbol | ||||||
10 | of our respect and esteem.
