HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Robert E. Smith has served as a Commissioner of 
3the Arlington Heights Park District for 16 years, including 2 
4terms as president and 2 terms as vice-president; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, During Robert Smith's tenure, the District was 
6recognized as an Illinois Association of Park 
7Districts/Illinois Park and Recreation Association 
8"Distinguished Park and Recreation Agency"; the District also 
9received the National Gold Medal for Excellence in Park and 
10Recreation Management; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Robert Smith worked to improve parks throughout 
12Illinois by serving in 2004 as sergeant-at-Arms and in 2005 as 
13a trustee on the Illinois Association of Park Districts Board 
14of Trustees; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Robert Smith was instrumental in acquiring over 19 
16acres of land, valued at $7,450,000, and in securing over 
17$5,647,000 in local, State, and federal grant money for the 
18Arlington Heights Park District; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Robert Smith has assisted in the acquisition, 
20development, and renovation of premier Arlington Heights Park 
21District recreation areas and facilities, such as the Camelot,

1Frontier, Heritage, and Olympic swimming pools, the Davis 
2Street Service Center, the Forest View Racquet and Fitness 
3Club, Frontier Park, the Heritage Tennis Club, Melas and 
4Memorial Parks, the Olympic Indoor Swim Center, the Pioneer 
5Park Pool and Community Center, and Sunset Meadows Park; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert Smith has exhibited the dedicated 
7ingenuity, individuality, and insight as a Commissioner that 
8has brought creative programming, outstanding facilities, and 
9quality services to the residents of Arlington Heights; 
10therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we honor Robert E. Smith on the occasion of his retirement 
14after 16 years of service to Arlington Heights, recognize his 
15many accomplishments during those years, and wish him well in 
16all of his future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to Robert Smith as an expression of our esteem and 
19respect.
