HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Boy Scout Troop 677 
4on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, In 1913, the Disciples of Christ Church, now known 
6as Gurnee Community Church, organized and sponsored Scout Troop 
71; 100 years later it is now Boy Scout Troop 677; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Throughout its history, Troop 677 has been a 
9familiar presence around the Village of Gurnee; in 1923-1924, 
10when the church building was moved to its current Grand Avenue 
11site and additions were made to it, Troop 677 had the honor of 
12shoveling the first dirt from the new basement site; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Throughout the intervening years, Troop 677 has 
14participated in countless service projects and community 
15events, including  highway clean-ups, Scouting for Food, Gurnee 
16Days, and Memorial and Veteran's Day remembrance ceremonies; 
17and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Troop 677 is proud to have over 70 of its scouts 
19attain the rank of Eagle Scout, a significant and highly 
20recognized achievement; and

1    WHEREAS, A celebration for Troop 677's 100th anniversary 
2will be held on June 8, 2013, at the Gurnee Community Church; 
3therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
6we congratulate Troop 677 on its 100th anniversary, and wish 
7the troop many more successful years; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Troop 677 as an expression of our esteem and 
10respect.
