HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the St. Ignatius College Prep girls water polo team on becoming the 2013 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Champions; and

WHEREAS, On May 18, 2013, St. Ignatius beat Lincoln Way Central 12-9 in the IHSA State Championship game at Stevenson High School; the win marked the first time in the school's 144-year history a team sport won an IHSA State title; and

WHEREAS, Led by Metro Catholic Aquatic Conference (MCAC) Player of the Year Becky Insalaco and All-State standout Tammy Stelnicki, the Wolfpack put together an overall season record of 22-4-1 heading into the State tournament; and

WHEREAS, The State title was truly a team effort with offensive contributions also coming from juniors Rebecca Martinez, Maggie Maloney, and Nikol Lagodzinska, sophomore Karen Juarez, and freshman Diana Fernandez; on the defensive end, freshman goalie Jenny Stelnicki had over 2 and a half-dozen saves in the net; and

WHEREAS, Since the spring of 2000, the Saint Ignatius girls water polo team, led by coach Mike Cashman and assistant coach Kathleen Maloney, has won 9 IHSA sectional championships, one MCAC conference title, earned third in State honors 3 times, and has been the State runner-up twice; and

WHEREAS, The championship is a true testament to the program's motto of "Players Graduate Tradition Continues"; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we are pleased to congratulate the St. Ignatius College Prep girls water polo team on becoming the 2013 IHSA State Champions; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the St. Ignatius College Prep girls water polo team as an expression of our esteem and respect.
