HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of  Karen 
4Jones; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Karen Jones was born on July 1, 1966; her parents 
6were the late Barbara Ann and Kenneth Jones; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Karen Jones graduated from Proviso East High 
8School in 1984; as a role model to her daughter, she enrolled 
9in Benedictine University, where she acquired an associate's 
10degree with honors in 2006; she went on to receive a bachelor's 
11degree in 2008 and a master's degree in leadership in May of 
122012; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, As a teenager, Karen Jones joined Second Baptist 
14Church of Maywood and was baptized under the pastorate of 
15Reverend Wallace Sykes; at the time of her passing, she 
16attended New Life Covenant Church under the pastorate of John 
17Hannah; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Karen Jones was employed at Proviso West High 
19School in an administrative capacity for 14 years; she also 
20sponsored and championed the PIP Dance Ministry and wrote and 
21produced several inspirational plays, which always reached the

1community with messages of hope and redemption through the 
2ministry of dance and drama; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Karen Jones founded, supported, sponsored and 
4served numerous organizations, including the Founder of Real 
5Women Ministries, the Beyond Beautiful Young Women's 
6Conference, and the Passion to Praise Production Company; she 
7served as the young women's guidance counselor for the John C. 
8Vaughns Scholarship Fund, a prayer facilitator for the Rock of 
9Ages Foundations of Faith, and a new members facilitator at 
10Victory Cathedral; she was also a member of the Change 
11Community Choir and the James Hamilton Singers; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Karen Jones will be missed dearly by her loving 
13daughter, Rebecca Stenson; her sister, Carlotta Renee Plummer; 
14her nephews, Kevin (Tisha) and Kenneth; her great-nieces and 
15great-nephews, Tyrone, Ashlie, Tierra, and Kamaal; her special 
16nieces, Sonja (Chris) and Tracy; her godchildren, Michael 
17Porter and Janae Curry; her aunts and uncles, Frances, Janet, 
18Pat (Solomon), Richard, Shirley (Ken), and Pearl; her many 
19cousins; her father in the faith, Dr. Copeland, and her mentor, 
20Dr. Tanesha Pittman; and her friends, Arenia, Marcia, Laketha, 
21Talonda, Alisa, Wonderlyn, and Shanna; therefore, be it
  
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
23NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of 
2Karen Jones; and be it further
  
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
4presented to the family of Karen Jones as an expression of our 
5sympathy.
