| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Abraham Lincoln | ||||||
| 4 | School in Glen Ellyn as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of | ||||||
| 5 | its founding; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School opened its doors on | ||||||
| 7 | September 4, 1962; its first principal was Dwight Knous and its | ||||||
| 8 | first superintendent was Dr. William Hadley; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School had 2 sections that housed | ||||||
| 10 | the classrooms and one gym; enrollment was approximately 400; | ||||||
| 11 | it had 14 grade level teachers, 15 sections from Kindergarten | ||||||
| 12 | to 6th grade, and 15 additional teachers/staff members; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School was built as modern type | ||||||
| 14 | architecture designed to individualize instruction to the | ||||||
| 15 | potential of the child and to utilize space; of the 600 | ||||||
| 16 | selected schools in the U.S. at the Atlantic City School | ||||||
| 17 | Building Architectural Exhibit in 1962, it won 25 merit awards | ||||||
| 18 | for flexibility relative to modern school program and for | ||||||
| 19 | architectural excellence; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, The Abraham Lincoln School Parent Teachers | ||||||
| 21 | Association was started in 1962; Mr. and Mrs. William H. Walker | ||||||

| 1 | (Jo) were the presidents; Kristin Massey is the current PTA | ||||||
| 2 | president; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School has grown considerably | ||||||
| 4 | throughout the years; it now has 3 sections that house most of | ||||||
| 5 | the classrooms, portable classrooms, 2 gyms, and a library; | ||||||
| 6 | enrollment is 602, with a diverse population that speaks over | ||||||
| 7 | 33 different languages; there are 25 grade level teachers with | ||||||
| 8 | 27 sections from Kindergarten to 5th grade and 44 additional | ||||||
| 9 | teachers/staff; Linda Schweikhofer is the principal, and Dr. | ||||||
| 10 | Ann Riebock is the superintendent; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln School's colors are blue and gold; | ||||||
| 12 | its mascot is the Lincoln Leopard; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 14 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we congratulate Abraham Lincoln School on the 50th anniversary | ||||||
| 16 | of its founding and we wish them many more years of success; | ||||||
| 17 | and be it further

| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to Abraham Lincoln School as an expression of our | ||||||
| 20 | esteem and respect.
