HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Bill Hood on the occasion of his retirement as Managing Director of State and Local Government Affairs for American Airlines; and

WHEREAS, Bill Hood began working for American Airlines in 1994 and, as Managing Director, worked with State and local government authorities and community organizations on matters concerning airline regulation, airport operations, and general business matters in the Midwest; and

WHEREAS, Before joining American Airlines, Bill Hood worked as a lawyer and, for a time, managed the municipal bond investment banking division for Continental Bank in Chicago; he also served on the staff of the U.S. Senate Committee on Aging and worked as a journalist, winning several awards for investigative journalism; and

WHEREAS, Bill Hood has served on the boards of numerous business, cultural, and social service organizations; he was a trustee for Columbia College Chicago from 1988 through 2012 and its chairman from 2001 through 2005; he has served as a trustee for the Museum of Contemporary Art since 1998, as a board member of the Museum of Contemporary Photography since 1995 and as its chairperson, as a director of the Chicago Area Project since 1977 and as its chairperson, as a trustee for the Chicago Shakespeare Theater since 2001, as a member of several affiliate groups of the Art Institute of Chicago, as a member of the National Committee of the American Friends of Versailles since 2008, as a member of the Chicago Historical Society Making History Awards Committee, as a member of the Great Lakes Dredge and Philharmonic Society, as a trustee for the Chicago Zoological Society (Brookfield Zoo) since 2011, as a trustee for the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra since 2011, as a trustee for Alliance Francaise, and as a member of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, including service as president and treasurer of its Political Action Committee and on its Government Relations Committee; and

WHEREAS, Bill Hood is a member of the Sangamo Club in Springfield, the Racquet Club in Chicago, and the Lotos Club in New York; and

WHEREAS, Bill Hood's previous affiliations also include service as a director of the Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois, as an emeritus director of Lawyers for the Creative Arts, as a director of the James Jordan Foundation Boys & Girls Club, as a director of the Chicago Chapter of the Mexican-American Chamber of Commerce, as a director and chairperson of the Law School Fund for Northwestern University School of Law, and as chairperson of the State and Local Affairs Committee for the Air Transport Association; and

WHEREAS, Bill Hood and his wife, Vicki, reside in Chicago and have 2 sons; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Bill Hood on his retirement as the Managing Director of State and Local Government Affairs for American Airlines; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Bill Hood as an expression of our esteem and respect.
