| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Chicago |
| 4 | | Magnesium Casting Company on the 60th anniversary of its |
| 5 | | founding; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Donald R. Burnett, relying on his experiences in |
| 7 | | the United States Navy and equipped with a metallurgy degree |
| 8 | | from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, founded |
| 9 | | Chicago Magnesium on October 19, 1953, and for 60 years it has |
| 10 | | been at the forefront of magnesium and aluminum sand casting; |
| 11 | | and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Chicago Magnesium began in a small one-room |
| 13 | | cinder-block building on a plot of land in south suburban Blue |
| 14 | | Island; a few dedicated workers started by pouring castings for |
| 15 | | the Piper Club airplane and making castings for a jukebox; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, By 1959, Chicago Magnesium outgrew its original |
| 17 | | location and a larger foundry at the current Dixmoor site was |
| 18 | | built; the sixties and seventies saw continued growth with the |
| 19 | | company employing nearly 100 people and close to 75% of its |
| 20 | | production devoted to military aircraft; and
