| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kenneth |
| 4 | | W. "Kenny" Strobel of Marion, who passed away on July 6, 2013; |
| 5 | | and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Strobel was born on October 7, 1945, in |
| 7 | | West Frankfort to Herman and Lucille (nee Gulledge) Strobel; he |
| 8 | | graduated from Marion High School in 1963; he served his |
| 9 | | country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War; he |
| 10 | | married Elizabeth "Liz" Allen on June 18, 1966, at the First |
| 11 | | Christian Church in Marion; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Strobel was as a repairman and installer |
| 13 | | for nearly 44 years with General Telephone and Electric |
| 14 | | Corporation and later Verizon Communications; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Over the last 18 years, Kenneth Strobel served as |
| 16 | | a board member of the Marion Park District; he also served on |
| 17 | | the Marion Youth Baseball Board, the Marion Recreation Board, |
| 18 | | and the Marion Tax Increment Financing Board; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Strobel was a member of the International |
| 20 | | Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 702, where he |
| 21 | | served as a union steward; he was also a former member of both |
|

| 1 | | the Marion Veterans of Foreign Wars Heyde-Pillow Post No. 1301 |
| 2 | | and the Marion Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge |
| 3 | | No. 800; he was a member of the Third Baptist Church in Marion; |
| 4 | | and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Strobel enjoyed quail hunting, country |
| 6 | | living, watching cattle, hay bailing, barbequing, and smoking |
| 7 | | chickens, ribs, and pork butts with friends; he was an avid fan |
| 8 | | of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini; he could |
| 9 | | often be found tinkering with special projects in his garage |
| 10 | | and had recently been restoring his candy-apple red 1955 Chevy |
| 11 | | with silver tail fins; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Strobel was preceded in death by his |
| 13 | | parents and by his brother, William H. Strobel; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Strobel is survived by his wife of 47 |
| 15 | | years, Liz; his sons, Matthew A. (Cynthia) Strobel and John |
| 16 | | Wayne Strobel; his grandson, Tyler Strobel; his |
| 17 | | granddaughters, Taylor and Ashlyn Strobel; and his extended |
| 18 | | family and many friends; therefore, be it
|
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 20 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 21 | | we mourn the passing of Kenneth W. Strobel, and extend our |
| 22 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
