| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former |
| 4 | | State Senator Beverly J. Fawell of Glen Ellyn, who passed away |
| 5 | | at the age of 82 on June 22, 2013; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Beverly Fawell was born on September 17, 1930, in |
| 7 | | Oak Park; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The Fawell family was among the earliest settlers |
| 9 | | of suburban DuPage County, and became known for their |
| 10 | | involvement in local and State politics; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Betty Fawell served with distinction in the |
| 12 | | Illinois House of Representatives from 1981 through 1982 and in |
| 13 | | the Illinois Senate from 1983 through 1999; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, While serving in the Illinois State Legislature, |
| 15 | | Beverly Fawell mentored countless legislators by promoting |
| 16 | | compassion and sensitivity; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, During her 18 years of dedicated service in the |
| 18 | | Illinois General Assembly, Beverly Fawell became known as a |
| 19 | | champion for developmentally disabled children, seniors, and |
| 20 | | disadvantaged citizens; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Beverly Fawell's final act as a State lawmaker was |
| 2 | | to pass legislation establishing assisted-living centers so |
| 3 | | that seniors had choices for how they would live out their |
| 4 | | golden years; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Betty Fawell served for many years as a Milton |
| 6 | | Township Republican Committeewoman; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Betty Fawell set personal ambition aside in 1999 |
| 8 | | when she retired from the Illinois Senate so she could help |
| 9 | | care for her grandchildren when her son Steven passed away; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Betty Fawell was the loving mother of Jeff |
| 11 | | (Blanche), Judy, Scott (Andrea), and Steve; grandmother of Dan, |
| 12 | | Tim, Joe, Katie, Jon, Michael, and Nikki; and great-grandmother |
| 13 | | of Liz, Mike, Emma, and Steven; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Betty Fawell was preceded in death by her former |
| 15 | | husband, Bruce Fawell and by her beloved son, Steven; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Betty Fawell was known as a great role model, |
| 17 | | advocate, and community leader; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Betty Fawell was a wonderful person who loved her |
| 19 | | family, her community, and her friends; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Betty Fawell left a priceless legacy for the |
| 2 | | people of Glen Ellyn and of DuPage County; therefore, be it
|
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 4 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 5 | | we mourn the passing of Beverly J. Fawell, and extend our most |
| 6 | | sincere and deep condolences to her family, friends, and all |
| 7 | | who knew and loved her; and be it further
|
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 9 | | presented to the family of Beverly Fawell as an expression or |
| 10 | | our deepest sympathy.
