| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Joseph Lis for his 37 years |
| 4 | | as a teacher at S.E. Gross Middle School and congratulate him |
| 5 | | for having the school's science lab named in his honor; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Lis served his country with distinction as |
| 7 | | a member of the United States Marine Corps; he earned his |
| 8 | | Bachelor's Degree in Education from DePaul University in 1956; |
| 9 | | and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, On a cloudy day in November of 1956, Joseph Lis |
| 11 | | got lost on his way to the Brookfield Zoo; he stopped at Gross |
| 12 | | Elementary School and asked for directions from the school's |
| 13 | | principal; after speaking with him, the principal offered Mr. |
| 14 | | Lis the position of science teacher, which he accepted; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, During his teaching career, Joseph Lis gained a |
| 16 | | sterling reputation as a devoted and capable educator whose |
| 17 | | innovative teaching methods and pride of his Polish heritage |
| 18 | | were known throughout the district; he retired from S.E. Gross |
| 19 | | Middle School in 1993 after many years of dedicated service to |
| 20 | | his countless students; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Lis and his wife, Marlene, have 3 children, |
