HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate  the administration and 
4volunteers of the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans on the 
5occasion of the successful opening and dedication of the 
6Captain Kevin C. Landeck Freedom Commissary on September 11, 
72013; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans was 
9founded in Wheaton by Vietnam War veteran Bob Adams and Gulf 
10War veteran Dirk Enger; the organization provides transitional 
11and affordable housing programs and supportive services to 
12United States veterans of any era to help them out of 
13homelessness and back into useful and productive lives; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, The Captain Kevin C. Landeck Freedom Commissary 
15was named after United States Army Captain Kevin Landeck, a 
161999 graduate of Wheaton Warrenville South High School who was 
17killed in action in Baghdad, Iraq in February of 2007; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, The Captain Kevin C. Landeck Freedom Commissary 
19was created to provides at-risk veterans and their families 
20with new and gently used necessities, including clothing, 
21household goods, hygiene supplies, and furniture, free of 
22charge; in the future, the commissary will provide veterans in

1need with gift cards for other basic needs, including gasoline, 
2groceries, and items related to gaining employment; and

  
 
3    WHEREAS, The Captain Kevin C. Landeck Freedom Commissary 
4will provide our State's veterans with the goods and services 
5they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives, a goal worthy 
6of the full support of the members of this body and the 
7citizens of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
9NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
10we congratulate the administration and volunteers of the 
11Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans on the occasion of the 
12successful opening and dedication of the Captain Kevin C. 
13Landeck Freedom Commissary and wish them continued success in 
14the future; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans as a 
17symbol of our esteem and respect.
