| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mundelein Fire | ||||||
| 4 | Chief Tim Sashko for receiving the "2013 Most Innovative Blood | ||||||
| 5 | Drive Coordinator Award" from the Illinois Coalition of | ||||||
| 6 | Community Blood Centers; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, In 2008, because of his desire to help his | ||||||
| 8 | community and his competitive nature, Chief Sashko developed | ||||||
| 9 | the Firefighters' Blood Donor Challenge; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, In its first year, 3 Lake County fire departments | ||||||
| 11 | took part in the Challenge; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, By 2012, 36 fire departments were participating in | ||||||
| 13 | the Challenge and collected over 3,148 units of blood in a | ||||||
| 14 | single year; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Since its inception under Chief's Sashko's | ||||||
| 16 | leadership, the Firefighter Challenge has expanded from Lake | ||||||
| 17 | County to a statewide effort and the Firefighter Blood Donor | ||||||
| 18 | Challenge has increased 700%; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Chief Sashko has helped bring the "Partners in | ||||||
| 20 | Savings Lives" program, which educates high school students on | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | the importance of becoming life long donors, to Mundelein High | ||||||
| 2 | School, which now because of his efforts, host 4 annual blood | ||||||
| 3 | drives, collecting an average of 700 units of blood; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Chief Sashko works to insure one drive each month | ||||||
| 5 | is held in his community so that donors have a consistent and | ||||||
| 6 | convenient place to donate; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Chief Sashko reaches beyond the fire departments | ||||||
| 8 | and encourages community groups to also join in the Firefighter | ||||||
| 9 | Blood Donor Challenge; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Chief Sashko hosted a bone marrow drive and | ||||||
| 11 | successfully added 82 members to the National Bone Marrow | ||||||
| 12 | Registry; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, In 2013, LifeSource nominated Chief Sashko as the | ||||||
| 14 | "2013 Most Innovative Blood Drive Coordinator" in a statewide | ||||||
| 15 | competition hosted by the Illinois Coalition of Community Blood | ||||||
| 16 | Centers; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 18 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 19 | we congratulate Chief Tim Sashko for receiving the "2013 Most | ||||||
| 20 | Innovative Blood Drive Coordinator Award", commend him for his | ||||||
| 21 | selfless service and dedication to saving lives in his | ||||||
| |||||||

| 1 | community, and wish him continued success in promoting blood | ||||||
| 2 | donation; and be it further
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 4 | presented to Chief Sashko as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 5 | esteem.
