HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate  the congregation of 
4Hermon Baptist Church in Chicago on the occasion of the 
5church's 125th anniversary; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Hermon Baptist Church is the oldest 
7African-American church on the north side of Chicago serving a 
8diverse community; the church was established in 1888 by 13 
9singers, with Reverend J.W. Taylor serving as the church's 
10first pastor until 1897; the church has been at its current 
11location at 1754 North Clark Street in Chicago since 1902; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Under the leadership of its current pastor, 
13Reverend Keith L. Edwards, Hermon Baptist Church continues its 
14mission of "Serving, Assembling, and Encouraging" and 
15providing spiritual growth to its membership and the community 
16at large; and

  
 
17    WHEREAS, The congregation of Hermon Baptist Church will 
18celebrate the 125th anniversary of the church with an event on 
19October 27, 2013; therefore, be it
  
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
21NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we congratulate the congregation of Hermon Baptist Church on 
2the occasion of the church's 125th anniversary and wish them 
3continued success and happiness in the future; and be it

5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
6presented to Hermon Baptist Church as a symbol of our esteem 
7and respect.
