| 2 | | WHEREAS, Health care will change significantly in the |
| 3 | | coming years with the implementation of the Patient Protection |
| 4 | | and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), giving new opportunities for |
| 5 | | health insurance; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Undocumented immigrants make up a sizeable |
| 7 | | portion of persons who seek out health care in this State; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services |
| 9 | | indicates that undocumented immigrants will not be eligible for |
| 10 | | Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program coverage or |
| 11 | | for exchange subsidies under the PPACA and will not be |
| 12 | | permitted to purchase unsubsidized coverage through the |
| 13 | | Illinois Health Benefits Exchange; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Undocumented immigrants are not subject to the |
| 15 | | mandate provisions of the PPACA and are excluded from temporary |
| 16 | | high-risk pools; therefore, be it
|
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 19 | | we urge Congress to amend the Patient Protection and Affordable |
| 20 | | Care Act to include undocumented immigrants in the mandate |
| 21 | | provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act; |
