HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to recognize the Alpha Phi Alpha 
4fraternity on the 24th annual Black & Gold Scholarship Ball; 
5and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The 24th annual Black & Gold Scholarship Ball will 
7be held Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Holiday Inn 
8Chicago-Matteson; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, The yearly celebration is held in order to 
10continue to provide educational resources and raise 
11scholarship funds for young African American males to expand 
12their scholastic opportunities; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha has provided educational services 
14to the community, such as formerly administering legislative 
15scholarships for State Representatives George Scully, Albert 
16Riley, Jr., and Anthony DeLuca, funding scholarship awards from 
17the Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation in excess of $250,000 
18to date, and running the Leaders of Tomorrow mentorship program 
19and the Project Alpha leadership training; and
  
 
  
20    WHEREAS, This year's program will salute the Theta Mu 
21Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated

1for 50 years of service; therefore, be it
  
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
3NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
4we recognize and congratulate the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity on 
5its 24th annual Black & Gold Scholarship Ball; and be it 
6further
  
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8presented to the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity as a symbol of our 
9esteem and respect.
