HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In 1963, the Illinois Board of Higher Education established the Faculty Advisory Council to offer information and assistance from the perspective of Illinois' higher education faculty; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Board of Higher Education Faculty Advisory Council represents faculty in all sectors of higher education in the State of Illinois, including public universities, community colleges, and private institutions of higher learning; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Board of Higher Education Faculty Advisory Council has served as a useful and respected resource for college faculty participating in discussions with legislators, the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Illinois Board of Higher Education, the Illinois Community College Board, and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission in addressing issues of interest to higher education; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Board of Higher Education Faculty Advisory Council has discussed issues of critical importance, including, but not limited to, higher education's contribution to the State's economic development and value as a public good, the profound role faculty play in student learning and the collegiate experience, support for student transfers between institutions, the evolution of online education, access to affordable higher education, and the essential role of faculty in the governance of higher education institutions, especially in matters concerning academic freedom and tenure; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank the Faculty Advisory Council for its long and trusted service to the citizens of the State of Illinois, especially to those who have been educated at Illinois' colleges and universities, and congratulate them on the occasion of the Council's 50th anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Illinois Board of Higher Education Faculty Advisory Council as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
