| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois Legislative Reference Bureau is |
| 3 | | celebrating its one hundredth year of service to the General |
| 4 | | Assembly and the people of this State; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Created by statute in 1913 to provide legislative |
| 6 | | drafting assistance to the members of the House of |
| 7 | | Representatives and the Senate, the Legislative Reference |
| 8 | | Bureau became the General Assembly's first legislative support |
| 9 | | service agency and a model for many similar offices |
| 10 | | subsequently established in other states; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, the number and expertise of the |
| 12 | | Legislative Reference Bureau's attorneys and staff have |
| 13 | | increased to meet the challenges of the General Assembly's |
| 14 | | efforts to meet the ever-changing needs of the people of the |
| 15 | | State of Illinois; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, The Legislative Reference Bureau was instrumental |
| 17 | | to the General Assembly's creation of the Illinois Compiled |
| 18 | | Statutes, and maintains their usefulness to the people of the |
| 19 | | State of Illinois through its continuing compilation of the |
| 20 | | General Assembly's Public Acts into their public domain format; |
| 21 | | and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Guided by the Joint Committee on Legislative |
| 2 | | Support Services, the Legislative Reference Bureau augments |
| 3 | | its service to the General Assembly through maintenance of a |
| 4 | | well-stocked research library and its publications, including |
| 5 | | the Legislative Synopsis and Digest and its annual Case Report; |
| 6 | | and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, For a century, the Legislative Reference Bureau's |
| 8 | | non-partisan commitment to clarity of language and consistency |
| 9 | | of style has enhanced the efforts of the General Assembly to |
| 10 | | speak in a comprehensible, unambiguous voice; therefore, be it
|
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 12 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 13 | | we congratulate the attorneys and staff of the Illinois |
| 14 | | Legislative Reference Bureau on the occasion of its One |
| 15 | | Hundredth Anniversary, commending its many years of service to |
| 16 | | the General Assembly and its dedication to the highest |
| 17 | | standards of professionalism, and that we express our |
| 18 | | appreciation of the Bureau's contributions to this State's rich |
| 19 | | heritage of public service; and be it further
|
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 21 | | presented to James W. Dodge, Executive Director of the Illinois |
| 22 | | Legislative Reference Bureau.
