HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Illinois 
4Association of School Boards on the occasion of the 100th 
5anniversary of its founding; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of School Boards is a 
7voluntary organization of local boards of education dedicated 
8to strengthening public schools through local citizen control; 
9and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of School Boards is 
11organized by member school boards as a private, not-for-profit 
12corporation under the authority granted by Article 23 of the 
13School Code; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of School Boards was 
15founded 100 years ago in December 1913 by a group of 25 school 
16board members meeting in Quincy; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Today, nearly 99% of the school boards in Illinois 
18hold active membership; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Membership in the Illinois Association of School 
20Boards also consists of active, associate, affiliate,

1honorary, and service associate classifications; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The mission of the Illinois Association of School 
3Boards is excellence in local school governance in support of 
4quality public education; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of School Boards's 
6constitution provides that major policies be established by an 
7annual Delegate Assembly and places governance in the hands of 
8an elected board of directors; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, A board of directors comprised of locally elected 
10school board members has supervision, control, and direction of 
11the affairs of the Illinois Association of School Boards; it 
12implements the Association's policies or determines changes 
13therein within the limits of the constitution and actively 
14prosecutes its purposes; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of School Board's 
16programs are designed to provide leadership, service, and 
17advocacy for local school boards through professional 
18development, governmental relations, executive searches, 
19in-district services, policy development, information 
20services, legal counsel, and many other services; therefore, be

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
2NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
3we congratulate the Illinois Association of School Boards on 
4the 100th anniversary of its founding and wish them many more 
5successful years; and be it further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7presented to the Illinois Association of School Boards as an 
8expression of our esteem and respect.
