HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to honor Ray Lomas of Rock Island 
4on a lifetime of helping children in the communities that 
5surround him; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Since the 1950s, Ray Lomas has been a fixture in 
7Rock Island, helping underprivileged kids; he has coached 
8baseball teams, started the Rock Island Track Club in the early 
91960s, and was a co-founder of the Metro Youth Group in the 
101980s; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, On October 24, 2013, approximately 250 people 
12attended a gathering at the Rock Island Holiday Inn to honor 
13Ray Lomas; in attendance was Rock Island Mayor Dennis Pauley 
14who declared October 24 to be Ray Lomas Day in the city; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Ray Lomas was born in Jackson, Mississippi and his 
16family eventually settled in Rock Island; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Ray Lomas spent 36 years working for the John 
18Deere Company in East Moline; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Ray Lomas has touched the lives of hundreds, if 
20not thousands, of children and has always tried to make a

1difference, not only in the west end of Rock Island, but the in 
2the Quad-Cites as well; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we recognize and honor Ray Lomas on a lifetime of helping 
6others and wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and 
7be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Ray Lomas as an expression of our esteem and 
10respect.
