| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Anastasia |
| 4 | | "Sheila" Murphy Cassidy, who passed away on November 17, 2013; |
| 5 | | and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Anastasia Cassidy was born in 1923; she was one of |
| 7 | | the first women to serve in the United States Coast Guard |
| 8 | | during World War II; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Anastasia Cassidy was a member of Our Lady Queen |
| 10 | | of Martyrs Catholic Church; she was also a member of the |
| 11 | | Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10141 and the American Legion |
| 12 | | Post #24 and spent several years as part of the Honor Guard, |
| 13 | | serving at military funerals; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Anastasia Cassidy enjoyed reading and was a |
| 15 | | talented needle worker and seamstress, winning a blue ribbon at |
| 16 | | the Manatee County Fair in Florida for a cross-stich design |
| 17 | | created for her eldest grandson; she loved dancing and would |
| 18 | | never pass up an opportunity to do so; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Anastasia Cassidy was preceded in death by her |
| 20 | | brother, Robert Murphy; and |
