HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Maywood Rotary 
4Club on 90 years of service to the community; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Rotary International is the oldest and largest 
6service club in the world with over 1.2 million members and 
7over 27,000 clubs in every country in the world; the first 
8club, Chicago One, was started by Paul Harris and 4 other 
9business men in 1905; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, The Maywood Rotary Club was started in January of 
111924 by those from the Oak Park Rotary Club; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, The Maywood Rotary  Club has raised over $100,000 
13in the last 10 years and donated half of it to local service 
14projects such as PADs Aspire, Maywood Fine Arts, the Boys and 
15Girls Club, the Young Men's Christian Association, Boy and Girl 
16Scout troops, and many others; the international projects have 
17purchased emergency shelters in the Philippines, a prostatic 
18clinic in Bolivia, a school for girls in West Africa, and land 
19mine clearance in Mozambique; every years, it donates to the 
20worldwide Rotary, the Gates Foundation, and UNICEF to end 
21polio; and

1    WHEREAS, The Maywood Rotary Club has donated over 1,700 
2dictionaries to every 3rd grader in District 89 and the 
3parochial schools; it has sent Proviso East High School 
4students to live in Italy, Germany, and Switzerland, and is 
5currently supporting  a Melrose Park student who is a Rhodes 
6Scholar studying at the University of Oxford; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, A celebration in honor of the Maywood Rotary Club 
8will be held on January 23, 2014 at Tom's Steak House in 
9Melrose Park; therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
12we congratulate the Maywood Rotary Club on 90 years of service 
13to the surrounding community, and we wish them many more years 
14of success; and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to the Maywood Rotary Club as an expression of our 
17esteem and respect.
