HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to honor Ken Koeppen for his heroic 
4actions in helping to save the life of a wounded Arlington 
5Heights police officer; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Mr. Koeppen, who is the Deputy Fire Chief for the 
7Village of Arlington Heights, found himself in the vicinity of 
8a hostage situation on December 12, 2013 between Arlington 
9Heights police and an armed suspect; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, During the hostage stand-off, Police Officer 
11Michael McEvoy was shot and critically wounded; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, While other police officers moved in to subdue the 
13offender, Deputy Chief Koeppen came to the aid of Officer 
14McEvoy applying pressure to his serious wound and stabilizing 
15Officer McEvoy's condition until paramedics arrived; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, After being rushed to the hospital in critical 
17condition, doctors were able to save the life of Officer McEvoy 
18thanks in large part to the prompt first aid administered at 
19the hostage scene by Deputy Chief Koeppen; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, The Arlington Heights Police credit Deputy Chief

1Koeppen with saving Officer McEvoy's life through his brave and 
2selfless actions; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we honor Deputy Fire Chief Ken Koeppen for his gallant actions 
6in saving the life of Officer Michael McEvoy; and be it further
  
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8presented to Deputy Fire Chief Ken Koeppen as a symbol of our 
9esteem and respect.
