HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the 
3members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to 
4congratulate Derrick A. Calhoun  of Chicago's Morgan Park High 
5School on being inducted into the Illinois Track and Cross 
6Country Coaches Association's Hall-of-Fame; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The 2014 class consisted of nearly 40 coaches 
8being nominated and the possibility of up to 7 members being 
9selected; the coaching record, contributions to the sport 
10outside of coaching, and character are all considered when 
11reflecting on a coaches worthiness for induction; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Derrick A. Calhoun has coached the girls track and 
13field cross country  teams, the Mustangs, for 25 years; his 
14teams have earned 7 Illinois High School Association State 
15Championships and another 7 runner-up titles; they also have 
16won 15 consecutive Chicago city championships in track and 
17field and 9 city championships in cross country; 43 times his 
18athletes have won gold medals at the State track and field 
19meet; he has coached 18 individual and 25 relay State 
20champions; 6 times his athletes have set State records and they 
21have earned a total of 106 individual State medals; and
  
 
22    WHEREAS, Derrick A. Calhoun has also been involved in track

1and field on a national level; in 2011, he was head coach for 
2the USA world youth team which competed in Lilli, France; he 
3also served as USA youth national team coach in Poland and 
4Hungry and 8 times he has bene awarded the Illinois Track and 
5Cross Country Coaches Association's Coach-of-the-Year; and
  
 
  
6    WHEREAS, Derrick A. Calhoun was inducted at the Illinois 
7Track and Cross Country Coaches Association's annual 
8Hall-of-Fame Banquet on January 11, 2014; therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
11we congratulate Derrick A. Calhoun on being inducted into the 
12Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association's 
13Hall-of-Fame and we wish him many more years of success; and be 
14it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to Derrick A. Calhoun as an expression of our esteem 
17and respect.
