HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Pete Crumpton, who passed away on January 24, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Pete Crumpton was born on August 26, 1961 in Chicago; his parents were Lander Crumpton, Jr. and Symathew Crater-Crumpton; and

WHEREAS, Pete Crumpton confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Fernwood United Methodist Church; he was an active member of St. Margaret of Scotland Episcopal Church (Anglican) for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Pete Crumpton attended Percy L. Julian High School and Kennedy King College; as a youth, he was very active in 4-H Clubs, where he won many awards and served as a counselor at the yearly 4-H Camp at Camp Shaw-waw-nas-see in Manteno; and

WHEREAS, As a teen, Pete Crumpton took an interest in politics; he studied political organizing at Chicago Black United Communities under the tutelage of Lu and Jorja Palmer at the encouragement of Rev. Al Sampson; he subsequently worked on several campaigns for various politicians over the years, including Monica Faith Stewart, Paul Simon, Carol Moseley Braun, Roland Burris, and Leslie Hairston, and worked for Alderman Hairston for several years after her election; and

WHEREAS, Pete Crumpton was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Pete Crumpton is survived by his sister, Betty; his brothers, Corneal, Jerome, William, Randy, and Clarence; his caregiver and friend, Marva Floyd; and his many nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Pete Crumpton; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Pete Crumpton as an expression of our sympathy.
