HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Pat Brown, physical education teacher at Lester Elementary School in Downers Grove, on receiving the National PTA Life Achievement Award; and

WHEREAS, The National PTA Life Achievement Award is the highest honor from the nation's largest child advocacy organization; and

WHEREAS, Pat Brown has been getting students moving for 31 years; in the last several years, she has brough innovative physical education instruction to School District 51, instituting "Movin' in the Morning", a before-school activity program and the "Motor Club", an after-school program for first-graders; she has also introduced an after-school volleyball program for sixth-graders that culminates with a game against the staff; and

WHEREAS, Through Pat Brown's commitment to the Jump Rope for Heart charity, Lester Elementary School has raised more than $150,000 for the American Heart Association and remains the only school to devote a weekend day to the program; in addition, they hold a jump rope fundraiser where participants find sponsors to donate money for every minute the person jumps during the 3-hour event; and

WHEREAS, It is the evident joy when a student is healthy and active that keeps Pat Brown motivated after 31 years; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Lester Elementary School physical education teacher Pat Brown on receiving the National PTA Life Achievement Award and wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Pat Brown as an expression of our esteem and respect.
