| 2 | | WHEREAS, On December 7, 1941, a surprise attack came upon |
| 3 | | the armed forces of the United States of America; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, The bombs that fell on the island of Oahu in |
| 5 | | Hawaii wounded over 1,100 American patriots and took the lives |
| 6 | | of almost 2,400; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, These sons and daughters of our land |
| 8 | | altruistically and selflessly sacrificed their lives for our |
| 9 | | country's safety; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, They gave their lives to defend freedom everywhere |
| 11 | | against the forces of tyranny and oppression during the Second |
| 12 | | World War; therefore, be it
|
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 14 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 15 | | we remember those who sacrificed their lives at Pearl Harbor on |
| 16 | | December 7, 1941; and be it further

| 17 | | RESOLVED, That we petition the United States Congress to |
| 18 | | make Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day a federal holiday to |
| 19 | | memorialize those courageous sons and daughters who fought and |
| 20 | | died at Pearl Harbor, recognize all Americans who carried their |
