HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate  Jasmine Babers of Rock 
4Island for being named one of the top two youth volunteers in 
5Illinois for 2014 in the Prudential Spirit of Community Award 
6program; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The Prudential Spirit of Community Award, 
8presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the 
9National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors 
10young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an 
11extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Jasmine Babers earned this award by giving 
13generously of her time and energy to found, edit, and publish a 
14quarterly magazine to help teenage girls build self-esteem, 
15become leaders, and pursue their dreams; the magazine features 
16articles about the struggles and accomplishments of individual 
17girls, plus tips on exercise, fashion, makeup, and succeeding 
18in school and life; the publication also hosts a recognition 
19event for girls called the Love Awards in the Quad Cities and 
20produced a play about the strength of girls; and
 
21    WHEREAS, As a State Honoree, Jasmine Babers received a 
22$1,000 award, an engraved silver medallion, and a trip to

1Washington, D.C. on May 3-6, 2014 during a series of national 
2recognition events; and

  
 
3    WHEREAS, The success of the State of Illinois, the strength 
4of our communities, and the overall vitality of American 
5society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young 
6people like Jasmine Babers, who use their considerable talents 
7and resources to serve others; therefore, be it
  
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
9NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
10we congratulate and honor Jasmine Babers for being named one of 
11the top two youth volunteers in Illinois for 2014 in the 
12Prudential Spirit of Community Award program, recognize her 
13outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership, and 
14community spirit, and extend our best wishes for her continued 
15success and happiness in the future; and be it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to Jasmine Babers as a symbol of our respect and 
18esteem.
