| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Michael J. Tate on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of his 60th birthday on March 7, 2014; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Michael Tate was born on March 7, 1954 in Lincoln; | ||||||
| 6 | his parents are Jim and Audrey Tate; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, After graduating from Stephen Decatur High | ||||||
| 8 | School, Michael Tate attended Milliken University and | ||||||
| 9 | graduated from Western Illinois University, where he earned a | ||||||
| 10 | degree in Political Science and Public Administration; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, At the age of 25, Michael Tate became the youngest | ||||||
| 12 | public official in Decatur's history when he was elected to the | ||||||
| 13 | Decatur City Council; shortly afterwards, he was honored to be | ||||||
| 14 | elected to the Illinois House of Representatives at the age of | ||||||
| 15 | 26; during his 10 years as an Illinois State Representative, he | ||||||
| 16 | loyally served the constituents of Christian, Cumberland, | ||||||
| 17 | Macon, Moultrie, Sangamon, and Shelby counties and earned a | ||||||
| 18 | reputation as an honest, hard-working, and effective lawmaker; | ||||||
| 19 | he served as a member of the Illinois House Republican | ||||||
| 20 | leadership and was a Minority Spokesperson on the | ||||||
| 21 | Appropriations Committee at a time when Illinois had a balanced | ||||||
| 22 | budget under the leadership of Governor James R. Thompson; he | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | also served faithfully on the Agriculture Committee; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, During his tenure in the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives, Michael Tate was instrumental in securing | ||||||
| 4 | funding for the Richland Community College Campus, the | ||||||
| 5 | construction of Illinois Route 39, and major improvements to | ||||||
| 6 | Eagle Creek State Park on Lake Shelbyville; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Michael Tate has been a proud recipient of | ||||||
| 8 | numerous Illinois Farm Bureau Service's "Friend of the Farmer" | ||||||
| 9 | Awards; he also received awards from the Illinois Hospital | ||||||
| 10 | Association, the Illinois Mental Health Association, the | ||||||
| 11 | Illinois Education Association, the Illinois State Rifle | ||||||
| 12 | Association, the National Rifle Association, and the | ||||||
| 13 | Federation of Independent Business in recognition of his sound | ||||||
| 14 | economic policies, fiscal conservative values, and ability to | ||||||
| 15 | effectively represent the concerns of his constituents; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Michael Tate has served as Chief Executive Officer | ||||||
| 17 | of the Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois since 1990; in | ||||||
| 18 | this position, he has served many communities and small | ||||||
| 19 | businesses well with his tireless work on behalf of the | ||||||
| 20 | association and its more than 1,200 members throughout the | ||||||
| 21 | State; and | ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Michael Tate and his wife, Cindy (nee Morton) | ||||||

| 1 | Tate, will celebrate 30 years of marriage in 2014; they are the | ||||||
| 2 | proud parents of Andrew, Rorrie, Regan, and Chase; therefore, | ||||||
| 3 | be it
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 5 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 6 | we congratulate Michael J. Tate on the occasion of his 60th | ||||||
| 7 | birthday and wish him many happy and healthy years to come; and | ||||||
| 8 | be it further

| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to Michael Tate as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
| 11 | respect.
