| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to recognize Julius W. Hegeler II |
| 4 | | for his contributions to the community and congratulate him on |
| 5 | | his induction into the Vermilion Advantage Hall of Fame; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Julius Hegeler II graduated from Millikin |
| 7 | | University in 1950 with a degree in Business Administration; he |
| 8 | | served his country in the United States Air Force as a jet |
| 9 | | fighter pilot during the Korean War, flying 70 missions without |
| 10 | | ever getting a scratch; he was awarded the Distinguished Flying |
| 11 | | Cross, an Air Medal, and an Oak Leaf Cluster; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Following the war, Julius Hegeler II returned, and |
| 13 | | along with his 3 brothers, started Peterson Filing and |
| 14 | | Packaging, later known as Peterson/Puritan, and it became the |
| 15 | | world's largest contract packager of chemical specialties; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Julius Hegeler II decided a long time ago to |
| 17 | | return the good fortune he has received by giving back to his |
| 18 | | community; he gives to his alma maters, Millikin University and |
| 19 | | Culver Academy, but his heart is with the people of Danville |
| 20 | | and Vermilion County; he is always searching for projects to |
| 21 | | help the community; he has served numerous terms on the |
| 22 | | Danville Area Community College Foundation Board and he is a |
|

| 1 | | major donor for Presence United Samaritans Medical Center, its |
| 2 | | foundation and outreach programs, and he was the original donor |
| 3 | | who made the popular Polar Express event at the Festival of |
| 4 | | Trees possible; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, In 1992, the Julius W. Hegeler II Foundation was |
| 6 | | started to focus on organizations that are philanthropic, |
| 7 | | research-oriented, and educational in nature; the Foundation |
| 8 | | has given millions of dollars to help Vermilion County; it has |
| 9 | | helped build 3 Ambucs Playgrounds for Everyone, given to |
| 10 | | Presence United Samaritans Medical Center to fund Cancer Center |
| 11 | | renovations and create a Women's Healthcare Center, donated |
| 12 | | money to ensure the Danville District 118 Foundation can |
| 13 | | support students and teachers into the future through special |
| 14 | | projects, and has given generously to help the Danville Area |
| 15 | | Community College reach new heights in campus renovations, |
| 16 | | including a marble bench dedicated to long time liberal arts |
| 17 | | instructor Mary Coffman, the Garden Gateway entrance to the |
| 18 | | college, the new greenhouse, and the new Technology Center, |
| 19 | | which was named after Julius; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Julius Hegeler II has supported the Danville |
| 21 | | Symphony, the United Way, the Vermilion County War Museum, and |
| 22 | | many other organizations across Vermilion County, and he has |
| 23 | | opened his Vermilion Street mansion to welcome home Vermilion |
| 24 | | County stars to raise funds for the Fisher Theater renovation, |

| 1 | | and to raise funds for the American Diabetes Association; he |
| 2 | | has touched thousands of lives and most people will never know |
| 3 | | as he does not do it for the recognition; and |
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Julius Hegeler II will be inducted into the |
| 5 | | Vermilion Advantage Hall of Fame on March 16, 2014; therefore, |
| 6 | | be it
|
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 8 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 9 | | we recognize Julius W. Hegeler II for his contributions to the |
| 10 | | community and congratulate him on his induction into the |
| 11 | | Vermilion Advantage Hall of Fame; and be it further
|
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 13 | | presented to Julius Hegeler II as an expression of our esteem |
| 14 | | and respect.
