HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mattie 
4Jennings Trice of Chicago, who passed away on February 13, 
52014; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Mattie Jennings Trice was born on November 29, 
71926 in Verona, Mississippi to the late Enes and Rev. Robert L. 
8Jennings; she was the fifth of 10 siblings; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Mattie Jennings Trice received her formal 
10education at the Mary C. Wade Elementary School in Verona, 
11Mississippi and the Lee County Training School in Tupelo, 
12Mississippi; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Mattie Jennings Trice married Verdell Trice in 
141945; the couple moved to Chicago in 1953 and joined the St. 
15Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Chicago; she was 
16an efficient homemaker and assisted her husband with the family 
17business; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Mattie Jennings Trice was preceded in death by her 
196 brothers; her 3 sisters; and her son, Verdell R. Trice; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Mattie Jennings Trice is survived by her husband

1of 69 years, Verdell; her goddaughter, Alenya Ison-Thomas 
2(Khalmus); her special niece, Gwendolyn J. Harris; her special 
3cousin, Henry F. Jennings; and her many nieces, nephews, 
4cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
6NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
7we mourn the passing of Mattie Jennings Trice and extend our 
8sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew 
9and loved her; and be it further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to the family of Mattie Jennings Trice as an 
12expression of our deepest sympathy.
