| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Joy Allen on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of her retirement from her position as Central | ||||||
| 5 | Catholic High School principal after 23 years of service; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Joy Allen began serving as Central Catholic High | ||||||
| 7 | School principal in June of 1991, and will step down on June | ||||||
| 8 | 30, 2014; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Joy Allen has brought many changes to Central | ||||||
| 10 | Catholic during her tenure; she has developed a broader | ||||||
| 11 | curriculum to better serve all academic levels of learning at | ||||||
| 12 | her school, increased AP offerings, and brought Heartland | ||||||
| 13 | Community College to the school's campus; she planned and | ||||||
| 14 | managed the study of a new school campaign, oversaw the | ||||||
| 15 | direction of an active campaign in 2001, helped design and make | ||||||
| 16 | decisions on a new school campus on Airport Road, and was | ||||||
| 17 | actively involved from the beginning to end with the | ||||||
| 18 | construction of a new building, with Central Catholic opening | ||||||
| 19 | its new doors in the Fall of 2003; she has seen enrollment go | ||||||
| 20 | from 213 students in 1991 to a high of 423 in 2009, and now | ||||||
| 21 | stands at 346; and
| ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Joy Allen also oversaw developments in numerous | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | other departments at Central Catholic; she supervised the | ||||||
| 2 | campaign and construction of the Bill Hundman Memorial Stadium | ||||||
| 3 | for the football and track programs, with it opening in the | ||||||
| 4 | Fall of 2005; and her commitment to Fine Arts is apparent with | ||||||
| 5 | the band and music program growing from 9 students in 1991 to | ||||||
| 6 | 47 students in the choir and 43 in the band as of this year; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Joy Allen has looked towards new and innovative | ||||||
| 8 | strategies to support the school's financial needs; she started | ||||||
| 9 | the Dream House Raffle in 1993 and successfully ran the raffle | ||||||
| 10 | to fund tuition scholarships and a student work program for | ||||||
| 11 | those qualifying for financial assistance, with the fund now at | ||||||
| 12 | over $1,000,000; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Joy Allen has received many awards and | ||||||
| 14 | recognitions over the years; she received the Benemerenti Medal | ||||||
| 15 | in the Fall of 2013 for her long and exceptional service to the | ||||||
| 16 | Catholic Church, her most cherished of them all; therefore, be | ||||||
| 17 | it

| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 19 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 20 | we congratulate Joy Allen as she retires from her position as | ||||||
| 21 | Central Catholic High School principal, and we wish her the | ||||||
| 22 | best in all her future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
