| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 was signed |
| 3 | | into law on August 20, 1964 by President
Lyndon B. Johnson; and

| 4 | | WHEREAS, The purpose of this legislation was to eliminate |
| 5 | | the paradox of poverty in the midst of plenty
in this nation; |
| 6 | | and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Because of this important landmark legislation, |
| 8 | | Community Action Agencies began a proud
tradition of service to |
| 9 | | the vulnerable families and individuals of Illinois and the |
| 10 | | nation; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies embody the spirit of |
| 12 | | hope, improve communities, and make
America a better place to |
| 13 | | live; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Nearly 650,000 Illinois residents are served |
| 15 | | annually by Community Action Agencies
operating in all 102 |
| 16 | | counties; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, The Community Action Agencies of Illinois will |
| 18 | | commemorate this year as the 50th
anniversary of service to |
| 19 | | Illinois and the nation; and
