|
2 | | WHEREAS, Over 40 years after Congress passed the |
3 | | Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), promising every |
4 | | worker the right to a safe job, the protections in OSHA have |
5 | | saved hundreds of thousands of lives and prevented millions of |
6 | | workplace injuries; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Despite current safety laws, more than 4,000,000 |
8 | | workers are injured and thousands of workers are killed due to |
9 | | job hazards each year; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, On April 28, 2014 organized labor will observe |
11 | | Workers' Memorial Day all across the country to remember those |
12 | | who have suffered and died on the job and to renew the fight |
13 | | for safe workplaces for all workers; therefore, be it
|
14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
15 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
16 | | we recognize that as long as there are workers seriously |
17 | | injured or killed on the job, there will be a need to support |
18 | | stronger safety and health laws in our State and country and |
19 | | will work to that end; and be it further |
20 | | RESOLVED, That we encourage the Illinois congressional |
21 | | delegation and President Barack Obama to continue to revise, |
