HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Master of Public Administration Program at Northern Illinois University is celebrating 50 years of educating local government and other public sector agencies; and

WHEREAS, The mission of the Department of Public Administration is to advance excellence in professional public management through scholarship in teaching, research, and service; and

WHEREAS, The Master of Public Administration Program focuses on developing core competencies in budgeting and financial management, personnel management, decision making, communications, leadership, and teamwork; and

WHEREAS, The Master of Public Administration Program is ranked 5th in the nation in the specialty area of city management and urban policy and 12th in the nation for finance and budgeting, according to US News and World Report; and

WHEREAS, The City of DeKalb hired the first Master of Public Administration intern in January of 1964; since then, interns have been working in public sector agencies throughout the northern Illinois region; and

WHEREAS, There are over 1,300 alumni from the Master of Public Administration program serving in various public management positions across the United States and in countries around the world; professional local government and nonprofit managers make contributions every day to our health, safety, comfort, and quality of life in our communities; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Northern Illinois University Department of Public Administration on the 50th anniversary of the Master of Public Administration program; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Northern Illinois Department of Public Administration as an expression of our esteem and respect.
