HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Leyden High School 
4District 212 on being chosen as one of 3 2013 Advanced 
5Placement District of the Year award winners; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The honor is bestowed by the College Board and is 
7given to recognize those 3 districts that have made especially 
8dramatic improvements among traditionally underserved 
9populations; the award recognizes one large district with more 
10than 50,000 students, one medium-sized district with between 
118,000 and 50,000 students, and one small district with less 
12than 8,000 students; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Among districts with small-sized populations, 
14Leyden High School District 212 students achieved higher 
15increases in Advanced Placement course participation and 
16performance than any other small district in the country, 
17putting the schools on the 2013 Advanced Placement Honor Roll; 
18Honor Roll districts increase the number of students taking 
19Advanced Placement exams and the percentage of students earning 
20scores of 3 or higher; it was from 477 honor roll districts 
21nationwide that District 212 and 2 other districts  were chosen 
22as district of the year winners; and

1    WHEREAS, Leyden High School District is one of 3 districts 
2featured in the Advanced Placement Report to the Nation, a 
3College Board website that features interviews of teachers and 
4students from each of the 3 designated award-winning districts; 
5and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Leyden High School District 212 held a celebratory 
7assembly on January 27, 2014 that featured numerous dignitaries 
8and was filmed as part of a promotional video to be included on 
9the College Board website; in addition, the College Board will 
10host several staff members and students as presenters at the 
11National Advanced Placement Conference to be held in 
12Philadelphia in July of 2014; therefore, be it
  
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
14NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
15we congratulate Leyden High School District 212 on being chosen 
16as one of 3 2013 Advanced Placement District of the Year award 
17winners; and be it further
  
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19presented to Leyden High School District 212 as an expression 
20of our esteem and respect.
