| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to recognize Arthur Canty |
| 4 | | Elementary School on the anniversary of the adoption of its |
| 5 | | name 65 years ago; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, In 1927, Irvingwood School was established in |
| 7 | | River Grove on West Addison; in 1935, the school moved to its |
| 8 | | current location on North Panama in Chicago and the name was |
| 9 | | changed to Grace Street School; in 1949, the school was renamed |
| 10 | | in honor of Arthur E. Canty and it still bears the name today; |
| 11 | | and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Arthur E. Canty was an engineer/custodian in the |
| 13 | | Henderson School for many years; he was a leader and held |
| 14 | | numerous positions of trust, including President of the |
| 15 | | International Union of Operating Engineers Local 143-143B, |
| 16 | | Administrative Assistant to the Office of Civilian Defense for |
| 17 | | the City of Chicago during World War II, and officer of the |
| 18 | | American Legion; he served in the United States Army as a |
| 19 | | Sergeant in France during World War I; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Arthur Canty Elementary School proudly serves the |
| 21 | | far Northwest Side of Chicago; therefore, be it
