| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Top Ladies of | ||||||
| 4 | Distinction, Incorporated (TLOD) on the occasion of the 50th | ||||||
| 5 | anniversary of its founding on June 4, 2014; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, TLOD's first meeting was held on June 4, 1964, and | ||||||
| 7 | it was chartered in the state of Texas on September 8, 1964 as | ||||||
| 8 | a non-profit educational, humanitarian organization; its | ||||||
| 9 | mission: "To enhance and enrich the lives of youth and adults | ||||||
| 10 | through national and community-based programs and projects. We | ||||||
| 11 | measure our success by the improved quality of life experienced | ||||||
| 12 | by the people we serve."; charter members were: Mrs. Franchell | ||||||
| 13 | Boswell, Mrs. Ina Bolton Brown, Mrs. Augusta R. Cash, Major | ||||||
| 14 | Ozell M. Dean, Mrs. Willie Lee Glass, Mrs. La Verne R. Madlock, | ||||||
| 15 | Mrs. Ruth Payne Smith, and Mrs. Georgia B. Prestwood Nelson; | ||||||
| 16 | and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Throughout the years, TLOD has expanded its | ||||||
| 18 | purpose to focus on youth (Top Teens of America), improving the | ||||||
| 19 | status of women, service to senior citizens, community | ||||||
| 20 | beautification, and community partnerships; chapters | ||||||
| 21 | nationwide support the National Council of Negro Women, the | ||||||
| 22 | National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the | ||||||
| 23 | United Negro College Fund, and Sickle Cell Disease Awareness; | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | chapters have awarded scholarships in each of TLOD's 6 | ||||||
| 2 | geographic areas; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Past national Presidents of TLOD from Illinois are | ||||||
| 4 | the 6th President, Jacquelyn Heath Parker, from Crete and the | ||||||
| 5 | 10th President, Peggy Lewis LeCompte, from Belleville; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, TLOD chapters in Illinois are: the Chicago | ||||||
| 7 | Chapter, the Ebony Chapter - Maywood, the East St. Louis | ||||||
| 8 | Chapter, the Evergreen Park Chapter, the Lincoln Park Chicago | ||||||
| 9 | Chapter, the Midway Chicago Chapter, the North Shore Chicago | ||||||
| 10 | Chapter, the Skyline Chicago Chapter, the South Suburban | ||||||
| 11 | Chicago Chapter, the West Suburban Chicago Chapter, and the | ||||||
| 12 | Will County Chapter; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, TLOD's membership has grown to include thousands | ||||||
| 14 | of dedicated, concerned, hard-working members that represent a | ||||||
| 15 | cross-section of resourceful woman power; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 17 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 18 | we congratulate the Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated on | ||||||
| 19 | the occasion of its 50th anniversary, and we wish them many | ||||||
| 20 | more years of success; and be it further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||

| 1 | presented to TLOD as an expression of our esteem and respect.
