2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Union Dairy of Freeport on |
4 | | the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its founding; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Union Dairy opened in 1914 when 2 milk-delivery |
6 | | men, Conrad F. Kaiser and Alber J. Hill, along with wives, |
7 | | Minnie and Lottie, decided to join forces and combine their 2 |
8 | | dairies into one; Lottie Hill created the name as the 2 men sat |
9 | | in their kitchen discussing the merger; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Union Dairy began on a farm on Hillcrest Road; the |
11 | | first building was on Taylor; in 1926, property was purchased |
12 | | at the corner of Douglas and Adams and a new building was |
13 | | constructed; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Union Dairy's iconic ice cream parlor came about |
15 | | in 1934; in 1936, the 2 founders parted ways, with Alber Hill |
16 | | purchasing Superior Dairy and Conrad Kaiser keeping Union |
17 | | Dairy; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, In 1997, Willy Alber purchased the building, did |
19 | | some remodeling and restoring, and re-opened Union Dairy; today |
20 | | it's still a family affair, with co-owner and manager, Jodi |
21 | | Miller, and partners, Uncle Willy and Cousin Pete Alber and |
