HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to recognize the installation of 
4Eugena Whitson-Owen as the president of the Women's Bar 
5Association of Illinois; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Eugena Whitson-Owen joined the law firm, Kurt E. 
7Olsen, a member company of Zurich Insurance Group; she 
8practices in all areas of civil defense litigation, 
9concentrating on the defense of matters arising out of 
10construction and product liability having tried numerous cases 
11before a jury in both State and federal courts; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Eugena Whitson-Owen is very active in local and 
13State bar associations, including the Women's Bar Association 
14of Illinois, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the 
15Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Eugena Whitson-Owen was recognized in 2008 and 
172009 as an Illinois Rising Star by Law & Politics magazine and 
18as one of the "40 Illinois Attorneys Under Forty to Watch" by 
19the Law Bulletin Publishing Company; she has also been 
20recognized by the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel 
21with its Meritorious Service Award; and

1    WHEREAS, Eugena Whitson-Owen received her law degree in 
21996 from the John Marshall Law School; prior to joining Kurt 
3E. Olsen, she was a partner at the law firm of SmithAmundsen 
4and an equity partner and owner of Moore, Strickland, & 
5Whitson-Owen; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Eugena Whitson-Owen will be sworn in as the 
7Women's Bar Association of Illinois President at its Centennial 
8Gala Installation Dinner, which will take place on June 6, 2014 
9at the Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier in Chicago; this year's 
10theme is "Building on Our Legacy"; therefore, be it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we recognize and congratulate Eugena Whitson-Owen on the 
14occasion of becoming President of the Women's Bar Association 
15of Illinois and wish her all the best as she assumes the 
16position; and be it further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to Eugena Whitson-Owen as an expression of our esteem 
19and respect.
