2 | | WHEREAS, CU One to One Mentoring was founded by Barbara |
3 | | Linder in 1994 at Urbana Middle School and Bottenfield |
4 | | Elementary School; and

5 | | WHEREAS, CU One to One Mentoring has grown from 38 mentor |
6 | | pairs in 1994 to 670 pairs in 2014; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, CU One to One Mentoring meets all elements of a |
8 | | quality mentoring program including: 1) Screening procedures - |
9 | | fingerprint and DCFS check, interview, application, and |
10 | | reference check; 2) Commitment requirement - minimum of one |
11 | | year, one hour a week during the school year; 3) Training - 2 |
12 | | hours of initial training, plus orientation; 4) Matching - |
13 | | arrangement and documentation of matches; 5) Support - |
14 | | Mentor/mentee check-ins and evaluations, ongoing training for |
15 | | mentors; and 6) Closure - Formal policy and exit interview; and

16 | | WHEREAS, CU One to One Mentoring is a cross-district |
17 | | program with both Champaign and Urbana public schools that is a |
18 | | part of the strategic plan for both districts and is fully |
19 | | funded by both districts; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, CU One to One Mentoring uses community-based |
21 | | mentors who generally begin with a mentee who is in 3rd to 7th |
