| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, Michael Semkiu, the Chief of Police in Mount | ||||||
| 3 | Prospect, will retire on June 17, 2014 after 31 years of | ||||||
| 4 | distinguished service to the citizens of Mount Prospect; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Chief Semkiu joined the Mount Prospect Police | ||||||
| 6 | Department on April 1, 1983; he was promoted to Sergeant in May | ||||||
| 7 | of 1998 and to Commander in 2002; he was subsequently promoted | ||||||
| 8 | to Deputy Chief of Administrative Services in 2004 and finally | ||||||
| 9 | to Chief of Police on June 5, 2012; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Chief Semkiu is a graduate of Loyola University | ||||||
| 11 | with a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Juris Doctor degree | ||||||
| 12 | from John Marshall Law School; he is a 2004 graduate of the | ||||||
| 13 | Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety School of | ||||||
| 14 | Police Staff and Command and a 2011 graduate of the | ||||||
| 15 | Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety Executive | ||||||
| 16 | Management Program; he received the Center's "Public Safety | ||||||
| 17 | Leadership Award" that same year; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, During his career with the Mount Prospect Police | ||||||
| 19 | Department, Chief Semkiu received numerous honors and awards, | ||||||
| 20 | including the Department's "Runner-up Officer of the Year" | ||||||
| 21 | award in 1993 and the Cook County Sheriff's "Award of Merit" in | ||||||
| 22 | 2011; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, Chief Semkiu has served on the Cook County Child | ||||||
| 2 | Advocacy Center Advisory Board and the Northwest Suburban | ||||||
| 3 | Alliance on Domestic Violence Committee; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, As a licensed attorney, Chief Semkiu is a member | ||||||
| 5 | of both the Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Bar | ||||||
| 6 | Association; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Mount Prospect Police Department is an | ||||||
| 8 | exemplary professional organization, thanks in large part to | ||||||
| 9 | the culture of leadership and service that was nurtured by its | ||||||
| 10 | command staff, with Chief Semkiu setting the course; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, After his retirement from the Mount Prospect | ||||||
| 12 | Police Department, Chief Semkiu plans to spend more time with | ||||||
| 13 | his family and enjoy a less hectic pace of life; therefore, be | ||||||
| 14 | it

| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 17 | we congratulate Chief Michael Semkiu on his 31 years of | ||||||
| 18 | dedicated and committed service to the citizens of Mount | ||||||
| 19 | Prospect as a police officer rising from the rank of Patrolman | ||||||
| 20 | to Chief; and be it further

| 1 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 2 | presented to Chief Semkiu with our gratitude for his public | ||||||
| 3 | service and our best wishes for his retirement years.
