HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize the Calumet City Fire 
4Department as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of its 
5founding on September 4, 2014; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, The men and women of the Calumet City Fire 
7Department have been providing a vital public service to the 
8city's citizens since October of 1914; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, These men and women have maintained a 
10distinguished record of service for 100 years; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, The Calumet City Fire Department has continued to 
12expand its role and face new challenges to meet the needs of 
13the community through training and certifications in 
14paramedicine, hazardous materials, public education, and other 
15special operations; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The firefighters collaborated with the Chamber of 
17Commerce in 1975, and donated hundreds of off-duty hours to 
18raise funds to start a paramedic program that became a reality 
19in 1976, continuing today; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, All the citizens  benefit from the noble efforts of

1these highly trained firefighter/paramedics every time they 
2answer the alarm to combat a fire, mitigate a hazardous 
3situation, or treat a medical emergency; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, While the potential dangers of each incident are 
5undeterminable and unknown, firefighter/paramedics in Calumet 
6City have exemplified the highest level of public service both 
7through their courage and their commitment to the highest 
8standards of professionalism maintained through frequent 
9training and re-training; therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
12we recognize the Calumet City Fire Department as it celebrates 
13the 100th anniversary of its founding; and be it further
  
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15presented to the Calumet City Fire Department as an expression 
16of our esteem and respect.
